CN 6400 used roller-bearing boxes on all running and tender axles, with bearings made by SKF of Sweden. [2] CN ordered 155 U-2 classes from 1927 to 1944. CN also ordered 5 U-4a locomotives in 1936, and the GTW ordered 36 U-3 classes from 1927 to 1943.

3 days ago · Here is 6400 in its 1939 Royal Train blue livery. Just a little side note to this. The number plate from 6400's sister engine # 6401 (it might have been 6404) sold at auction five or six years ago for $7,000 Canadian, which would translate into about $5,800 U.S. The reason for the rediculously high price?

Mar 5, 2019 · In Canada both the CPR and CNR were experimenting with their versions. The Canadian National Railway 6400 was the result of wind tunnel testing at the National Research Council and there were five of these built built for CNR, designated the U4A class.

Very slight differences between these engines and the CNR U-4s numbered 6400-6404 (Locobase 242). Note the light average axle loading and the weight per foot of driving wheelbase. Direct heating surface area included a combustion chamber and thermic syphons. Piston valves measured a relatively small 12" (305 mm) in diameter.
