Study abroad in Kyoto – one of Japan's most traditional cities – in CIEE's Open Campus Block program. Take one, two, or three consecutive six-week blocks and choose the courses that fit your academic needs.

Considered the cultural capital of Japan, Kyoto is world-renowned for its historical sites and rich experiences. Spend your summer living in and exploring Kyoto on your terms by spending one six-week block (or up to two) in this fully customizable program.

The CIEE Kyoto Open Campus program allows students to experience life in Japan's cultural capital while furthering their studies in a variety of academic fields. Students take two courses (3 sh each) per six-week block and participate in two or three blocks (12 or 18 sh total) per semester.

CIEE Kyoto offers courses in a wide range of subject areas including Japanese studies, theater, media, art history, history, and Japanese language. Students take 2 courses (3sh each) per 6-week session and participate in one or two sessions per summer.

As the ancient capital of Japan, Kyoto remains the premier hub of traditional Japanese culture. Students study Japanese language and select courses in English at CIEE Kyoto Center on Japanese history, religion, media, and more.

You will immerse yourself in downtown Kyoto where you will be nearby historic landmarks and get the experience you need to launch an international career in the creative industries. When class is in session, you will learn from instructors at CIEE Kyoto in courses across a wide range of subject areas, such as art, history, and Japanese culture.
