The Memorial Wall is a memorial at the Central Intelligence Agency headquarters in Langley, Virginia. [1] The wall is located in the Original Headquarters Building lobby on the north wall. There are 140 stars [2] carved into the white Alabama marble wall, [3] each one representing an employee who died in the line of service. [1]

Currently, there are 140 stars carved into the marble of the CIA Memorial Wall. The Wall stands as a silent, simple memorial to those employees “who gave their lives in the service of their country.”

Just inside the main entrance of CIA Headquarters in Langley Virginia, is a white marble wall with a collection of stars etched into the stone. It is the most sacred space on our compound. Each star memorializes a life lost in the line of duty, a sacrifice to our nation.

On June 8 2001, the CIA formally commemorated the 78th star on its Memorial Wall, honoring former Agency officer Tucker Gougelmann, who died in Vietnam in the summer of 1976 after 11 months of torture.
