BuNo 97349 served stateside with a number of squadrons including VMA-251, VMF-235 and VMF-232 before it was stricken from active service in July of 1956. In 1959 it became one of many F4U-4 Corsairs saved from imminent destruction by aviation entrepreneur Bob Bean.
