Jun 29, 2015 · Out west we call that a Swedish brush axe or more commonly a "swede." The blade is replaceable and is usually (or should be) razor sharp - often the sharpest tool carried. You'll want a mask or blade cover when it's set up right. Used one handed, and is easy to carry in a pack or on a belt.

Kaiser Blade, Brush Axe, or Machete? | Bushcraft USA Forums
Oct 28, 2018 · I have been using a folding saw to clear brush around my stands which has served me well if a little slow. I decided to buy another machete this year to have something quicker than a saw, and packable, unlike the Kaiser blade. What I ended up with was a brush axe, basically a Kaiser blade with a short handle. I really like the thing.

Oct 21, 2016 · Also, looking for pointers on sharpening a "brush axe". Not sure it's the proper term but it's in the photo attached for reference. Fiskars Brush Axe - Bushcraft USA Forums
Sep 11, 2012 · So, I know most guys use an axe, hatchet or machete for their rugged chopping chores. I personally am a fan of Fiskars axes. I use one for splitting cord wood and have their 14" hatchet as well. Love them. I picked up their brush axe 2 years ago to try out. I've tried different machetes and woodsmans pals without really liking them.

Dec 26, 2014 · I have cleared some serious brush with it, but as long as it is, it could be cumbersome. Wetterlings #317 Large Swedish Clearing Axe - Bushcraft USA …
May 3, 2020 · I used a similar one as a young teenager. I do not know the model, just it was called a “brush axe”. It’s awesome for clearing willows and scrub and limbing. I remember that it “swung heavy” at least for a 14 yr old, but ours was red and shorter. Maybe it was a different version. My vote is to use it!
Billhook vs. Machete | Bushcraft USA Forums
Mar 4, 2025 · Look more closely at those photos you shared and you'll see the tool is superimposed on the models' hands. For this reason I don't trust what they represent. On the other hand, I have used two-handed bush-hooks for clearing brush - they're like a VERY large billhook on the end of an axe handle. Yes, they're as destructive as they look.
