Anoosh then explains that when he returned home to Iran, he was captured and put in prison for nine years. As he concludes his story, Anoosh gives Marji a swan he made out of bread in prison. Pleased, Marji dreams of how she will tell her friends about all the heroes in her family.

In the last scene, Marjane dreams of walking down a tree lined street, telling her friends that many people in her family are heroes and have gone to prison for their political beliefs.

Satrapi’s Uncle Anoosh states “Here, take this swan I made in prison. Out of bread” (Satrapi 65). When he was released, Anoosh returned to his family and gave the bread swan to Satrapi. He created this little piece of art while he served his time in jail.
