Jan 9, 2025 · Better, it will remain a useful telescope even if you get fancy later with bigger telescopes, astrophotography, etc. It's always nice to have an easily car-portable telescope to easily haul up to the Brasstown Bald parking lot (a great starviewing site) or some of Georgia's "dark sites" which offer pristine skies.

May 30, 2024 · The Brasstown Bald parking lot at night is my astronomy go-to. It's an unlighted lot, and on a clear night one of the few places you can see the Milky Way. Plus it's a parking lot, so it's easy enough to schlep a telescope or other optical gear up there. DH

Nov 20, 2010 · From what I get all state parks you can carry in. I'm not entirely sure about fed parks. (not exacty sure what a fed park is). Army Corps of Engineers, which encompasses many lakes and lakeside campgrounds. Areas like Brasstown bald, where the land is state but the building is federal (IIRC, it's been awhile).
