Apr 16, 2023 · about 6 months ago I upgraded my setup to a 125 gallon mainly softies dominated tank. Been looking into getting a boxfish but i am yet to find a long-term success story on keeping them (any kind). On bluezooaquatics.com, i read that the horn nosed boxfish is hardier than the other ones, but I haven´t found anyone who has kept those.

Jun 7, 2024 · He is an Ostracion solorensis, scribbled or reticulate boxfish. They are more delicate than the horned nose boxfish. The two were together in the tank at the LFS. They are in separate QT tanks. Both have ich but no other signs. The scribbled boxfish had an odd swimming pattern (rocking back and forth) and was attracted to the bubbler.

Jan 8, 2017 · Boxfish can be difficult to keep at times. If this guy is in the same tank as the others that possibly have velvet, then it's no surprise they he wont' eat. The best thing you can do is keep trying different foods while you see if the hypo treatment will help your fish. Remember, if it's velvet, hypo won't do a thing for them.
Boxfish/cowfish best to start small or go for a bigger one?
Aug 29, 2020 · No, It would be ok for a short while when it is small, but cowfish grow relatively fast. They get over 16" long and need at least 250 gallons when fully grown. A smaller boxfish would be better suited for your tank. A boxfish will still need an absolutely massive tank when it is full grown but unlike cowfish they are extremely slow growers.
