The BON's website contains information including the Nursing Practice Act, BON Rules and Guidelines, BON Position Statements, the agency's physical location, disciplinary, and licensure information. Publications of the BON are available upon request for a minimal fee.

The Texas Board of Nursing (BON or Board) is authorized by the Texas Legislature to regulate the nursing profession to ensure that every licensee is competent to practice safely. The Texas Nursing Practice Act (NPA) and the Board’s Rules and Regulations define the legal scope of practice for licensed vocational nurses (LVN).

The BON approves qualified registered nurses to enter practice as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), including nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and nurse midwives.
