Nov 7, 2008 · the 14 bolt i used in my scout was a gov lov. it still worked,but i turned it into a 3 prong,gov lock gearball :grinpimp: i agree with scoutIITD i wouldnt want a welded rig in a tow rig. replace with an open carrier if its too broken to remove the pieces and turn it into an open diff.

I have seen many that were installed after production of the axle, that were too short and were doomed to fail. A lot of differentials use the same design lock bolt, with a slight difference in length and shank diameter.

Jul 4, 2007 · gov lock ihave a 10 bolt with gov lock under my 98 1500 i works great on snow and ice in the winter and does great smoke shows. I also have a 14 bff govlock under my toyota trail rig and I am going to weld it or get a spool. it works great on the street but it sucks on the trail!!!

Jun 19, 2006 · for the price of a good 10 bolt from a local junk yard i would have just got a complete rearend and swapped it in. or better yet stick a 12 or 14 bolt under it. not sure about removing the gov loc though sorry. rather than buy "the special tool" (sorry dont even know what tool it needs) you might check to see how much it would cost just to have someone yank it …
