
Homemade Blueing Salts - Cast Boolits
Nov 27, 2012 · I am just wondering if anyone has a recipe or/and tips on a good homemade blueing salt bath. I plan on buying one of those old star 9mm paras from sarco for my experiment, so I actually plan on trying different formulas and using muriatic acid to remove the blueing solution results until I find one that works on that particular type of steel.

I will say, in natural light, it does not look nearly as noticeable as it appears on the photo. Turnbull is a different process-They call it Charcoal blue, its hand satin polished and then cooked in an oven coated with a mixture of chemicals that produces a more subdued gray blue.

Mar 14, 2022 · Even with the practical reasons for stainless in mind, the most beautiful 1911s that I've admired were all blued. There is just something right about a polished blue finish on a 1911. Scratching is another practical consideration weighing in for stainless. It's an easy finish to touch up if you scratch it.

Ordinary hot salt bluing can also be gorgeous but can't quite capture the colors that the old methods did. Still, even with hot salt bluing, if the metal prep is brought to a sufficient level, you can be amazed at the depth of gloss and shine.

Nov 26, 2013 · Howdy, For quite a number of years, I helped a buddy of mine's gunsmith business. I've cleaned, repaired, polished and refinished many a gun during that time. I've done a lot of polishing for hot blue salts and blasting for parkerizing. I know the difference in color between Brownell's Oxynate #7 and Du-lite salts.
