Jul 2, 2014 · Inspired by ancient labyrinths, garden and hedge mazes of 17th and 18th-century Europe, and modern American corn mazes, this contemporary maze will be located in the West Court of the Museum’s historic Great Hall.

Instead of a traditional maze, where visitors get lost as they move deeper into the labyrinth, BIG proposed to invert the traditional maze experience for a grand reveal upon reaching the center of it.

Jul 7, 2014 · On July 4, the Bjarke Ingels Group’s BIG Maze opened in the hall, part of the museum’s annual Summer Block Party, which includes crowd-friendly events such as Sunday concerts and an outdoor barbeque stand. Even at 57 feet square and 18 feet high, the maze occupies only the eastern third of the Great Hall.
