Das Tricalciumaluminat reagiert mit Wasser zwar sehr schnell, seine hydraulischen Eigenschaften sind aber nicht sehr stark ausgeprägt. In Verbindung mit den Silicaten erhöht das Tricalciumaluminat die Anfangsfestigkeit des Zements.
