It is seen as three distinct intimal flaps that have a triradiate configuration similar to the Mercedes-Benz logo (Figure 1). Two of the three lumens outlined by these intimal flaps belong to the false lumen of aortic dissection.

Although the sign of the Mercedes-Benz is a sign initially described in conventional radiography, most of the images available today are by CT. In this patient we show the classic appearance in radiography, although it is a inconstant finding in cholelithiasis and its meaning is more anecdotal than clinically relevant.

Dec 3, 2022 · The inverted Mercedes-Benz sign refers to the shape taken on by a spinal subdural hematoma on axial imaging at the level of the denticulate ligaments, best visualized on MRI. A pair of denticulate ligaments and the dorsal septum constitute the three radiating spikes of the sign, while blood expands and fills the three loculations in-between.
