Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding scenery including the nearby mountains of Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy.

Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9-mile (1 hour approx.) return journey alongside Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), through the beautiful and natural Snowdonia National Park. The journey offers extensive views of Llyn Tegid, its surrounding countryside as well as the Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy mountains.

Child fares available for children aged 3 - 15 inclusive, under 3's travel for free Please Note: All trains finish their day's work at Llanuwchllyn. It is therefore not possible to make a return trip with the last departure from Bala. Cafe and Free Parking at Llanuwchllyn.

Running alongside the stunning Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) the Railway occupies the trackbed of the former standard-gauge Ruabon to Barmouth line of the Great Western Railway.

Steam Locomotives - Bala Lake Railway
The Bala Lake Railway aims to run steam trains on each day of timetabled operation. Five of the eight steam locos currently at Llanuwchllyn were built by the Hunslet Engine Co. of Leeds, England.

Yesterday the Snowdonia National Park Planning Authority granted planning permission for the extension of the Bala Lake Railway from its current remote terminus at Pen y Bont, to a new location just off the High Street in the centre of Bala.
