It can be hiding the extension so when you rename the file adding .dwg at the end the file name still ends in .bak. So in the windows file explorer go to options and select showing file extension, that way you can erase the .bak at the end

When saving a dwg 2016 autocad file, rather then getting an autocad .bak file, an adope file is created. Clicking the pdf properties it indicates that it is a bak file. And this new adode file will not open...says no program available. Do not know if related, but I recently installed Bluebeam Revu 2016. Any guidance would be appreciated . JR Miller

I think this has been a long term issue because there are no bak files whatsoever. Mar 30, 2017 · When trying to open by original file I get a pop-up saying "Drawing file is not valid." So I tried to go to Explorer and open the .bak file. I chose open with AutoCAD LT Application. FYI, I'm using AutoCAD LT 2018. I tried searching for AutoCAD DWG Launcher (which is an option I get with I choose open with on the dwg file) but nothing comes up.

The next time it fires, the .sv$ file is renamed to .bak and then a new .sv$ file is created. IOW - the .bak files in the %temp% location are your autosave files, one version older than the corresponding .sv$ file.
