3205 was built by the GWR in 1946 and is the sole surviving member of the 120 strong 2251 class of locomotives designed by C B Collett. 3205 was first allocated to Gloucester and spend much of its early life locally, being allocated to Gloucester, Cheltenham and Worcester.

The Great Western Railway (GWR) 2251 Class or Collett Goods Class was a class of 0-6-0 steam tender locomotives designed for medium-powered freight. They were introduced in 1930 as a replacement for the earlier Dean Goods 0-6-0s and were built up to 1948.

Jul 2, 2012 · GWR 0-6-0 2251 Class no. 3205 departing Cheltenham Racecourse on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway on 3rd January 2005. This locomotive is the sole survivor of its class, and is preserved on the South Devon Railway.

The livery was applied to a variety of types of locomotives whether or not they were intended for mainline passenger duties. From the one hundered and twenty locomotives built, only one survived, No. 3205 is currently preserved on the West Somerset Railway.

Charles Collett designed the GWR 2251 class to replace the ageing fleet of Dean Goods 0-6-0s. The class were essentially a modernised version of the their predecessors, sharing the same dimensions but featuring a tapered boiler and a full cab.
