May 17, 2021 · The ubiquitous Vauxhall Vivaro is a mainstay of the BT Fleet, although the majority of new vans are badged within the network access of Openreach. The BT Fleet periodically changes its vehicle livery to reflect the current company profile and branding.

In 1975 the livery was changed to 'POST OFFICE TELECOMMUNICATION' in red double-line lettering on small vans and in 1978 it was adopted for large vehicles as well. In 1980 the vehicle livery changed to blue lettering based on the stylised 'T Symbol' and large 'TELECOM' lettering.

British Telecom has a fleet of 50,000 vehicles ranging from the familiar Bedford van to heavy articulated lorries. By the end of this year at least 8,000 new vehicles will be carrying the new livery.

Most of the new Transits in the BT fleet carry the striking Openreach livery, unveiled earlier this year at the launch of Openreach on 11 January. The contract renewal followed a competitive tendering exercise, with the new Ford Transit selected primarily on the basis of whole-life costs.

BT Fleet placed their biggest vehicle order to date, needing 7,500 vans over nine months in 34 different vehicle & livery combinations. Vans had to be delivered to a precise schedule to meet the operational needs of a variety of BT Group customers, with late delivery not an option.
