Apr 27, 2007 · The only potential mechanical problems with an '86 R80RT are in the transmission, BMW having deleted a locating circlip. This affects all models '85-'94, the circlip only returning at the very end of production. Since this engine was originally designed to be 750cc, the increase to 800 is minimal and the 800 engine is very smooth running.

May 21, 2012 · R80rt I owned an 84 R80RT. Many carefree miles. Smooth running and plenty of power. Loved the sound from the dual exhaust. The only drawback? I did not have a battery tender at the time and seemed to always have a dead battery! Other than that, there were many features on the R80 I preferred over my current 04 R1150RT. There are two small holes drilled in the cast cross brace by each fork tube clamping boss into which a small roll pin is inserted- one on each side (P#6). That pin provides an anchor point for each signal stock, R&L.

83 R80RT 15 mm master cylinder rebuild kit - BMW MOA
Apr 27, 2018 · That o-ring is often the source of continued leakage after installing a new piston kit. And finally, it’s half the labor to replace instead of rebuild. 85 R80RT fork seal replacement - BMW MOA
Sep 28, 2012 · If your R80RT does not have gaiters, that may be the reason you are replacing the fork seals. Also, the springs to not need to be uncompressed to remove the lower sliders. Following the link description or that from lostboy will work. The Clymer and Haynes (and my) descriptions require unnecessary steps.

Aug 29, 2021 · I try and use inch-sized tires...my experiences with metric tires was not that satisfying years ago. These are the spec sizes for the /7 and maybe for the twin-shock bikes. Some where in the latter run of the Airheads, there were different sized tires, even metric, called out. For example, the R80RT 1985 calls for 90/90x18 and 120/90x18.
