Feb 5, 2022 · Looking for advice on porting the M54 cylinder head. I've probably spent 20+ hours watching youtube videos and reading forums to acquire a better understand of all that's involved. The goal of this project is to DIY the porting with a simple die grinder; I'm not going for a professional level result.

Mar 27, 2012 · The head with everything off it is not that heavy (21kg). Putting it on and off can easily be done with one person using a little care. If the camshafts are fitted, the extra weight makes it all a bit difficult (33kg).

May 1, 2018 · Realoem puts the head bolts at M10x110 for the M54. Those bolts are 4.3 inches long in the threaded portion. The ARP S52/M52 stud set is only 4.5 inches long with a lower thread that's .95 inches - that's just over 24mm of threaded rod.

Sep 29, 2016 · Here is what I bought when I rebuilt my M54 for precisely the same reason you are doing yours. 1) If I did it again, I would buy the rear seal kit with the rear seal already mounted in the casting. It is a pain to get the new seal pressed in perfectly without fixturing and I had a slight leak for about 50k miles after the rebuild.

Mar 18, 2025 · On BMW E60 models equipped with an M54 6-cylinder engine the head gasket is usually unrepairable due to faulty threads in the block. Before repairing a faulty head gasket, attempt to re-torque the cylinder head bolts. If the bolts will not tighten, the block is faulty as well.

Apr 26, 2009 · If the machine shop decks the head there is an alternative thicker gasket available to compensate for the material removed. I may have a local shop tweak the S/C pulley, injectors and tuning next year.
