Introduced in February 2005, the Alpina B5 and Alpina B5 S were built in saloon and wagon body styles and powered by the 4.4 L (269 cu in) BMW N62 petrol V8 engine (as used by the 545i) with the addition of a centrifugal supercharger.

Mar 18, 2001 · My experience is that ALPINA's in general have superior build quality and are engineered to a higher performance level than standard BMW's. Reliability is usually first class. Some cars like the B10 Biturbo are expensive to run because the turbos tend to wear out after 30000-50000km.

Fully rebuilt by Alpina and equipped with a supercharger and intercooler it matches the M5 for bhp but comprehensively outclasses it on torque. Then there is how that power reaches the road. Where the M5 is firm, perhaps overly so, the B5 is far more pliant. Just as engaging, just as pointable, yet less busy. And more comfortable.

The BMW E60 and the 4.4-liter BMW N62 engine from the 545i serve as the basis for the Alpina B5. Compared to the E60, the B5 has larger brakes, a new suspension with Electronic Damper Control, a stainless steel silencing system with polished double tailpipes and the typical Alpina changes to the interior and exterior.
