The BMW S14 is a DOHC four-cylinder petrol engine which was used in the E30 M3, E30 320iS, and E36 318i Super Touring. It is based on the BMW M10 block and what is essentially a shortened BMW S38 cylinder head. [1] . The direct successor to the S14 was the S42 based on the M42 engine.

The BMW E12 is the first generation of 5 Series executive cars, which was produced from 1972 to 1981 and replaced the saloon models of the BMW New Class range. Initial models were powered by inline-four engines, using either a carburettor or fuel-injection.

The BMW S14 is a straight-4 DOHC piston engine which was used in the E30 M3. It is based on the M10 block and the M88 head with two cylinders removed. The successor to the S14 is the S50 six-cylinder engine (since it was used in the following M3).
