May 25, 2022 · You are correct in that when the car is in the B drive mode it is always at maximum regeneration regardless of settings selected in iDrive. B mode is BMWs one pedal drive mode and the car will come to a complete stop and hold ( no creep ) when in this mode.

Jun 12, 2022 · If I am driving say 40-45 mph using the go pedal and I tap the shifter to B mode (foot still on the go pedal)...the car for sure pulls back and when accelerating using B mode, the i4 for sure feels "caged" or restrained.

Nov 23, 2023 · In B mode, the first part of the pedal travel (let's say 20%) is used for modulating braking/Regen. So when cruising in D mode you are likely using 15% of the throttle pedal travel. Switch to B mode and now you are telling the car to Regen a bit.

Mar 26, 2024 · They are the same. They just use different methods of invoking regenerative braking. In D mode, you have the push the brake pedal to regen. In B mode, you simply back off the accelerator pedal to invoke regen. I prefer D mode on highways because it is easier and smoother for me to regulate speed with coasting.

Sep 28, 2023 · I accidentally shifted the drive mode from D to R while the car was still moving. And I noticed that it smoothly transitioned without any jerking. I also did the opposite from R to D and also works the same.

Sep 5, 2023 · The BMW iX does mixed braking, which means that if you use B mode, it automatically does regen when you back off the accelerator. If you use D mode, it does the same regen when you use the brake pedal.

Feb 8, 2024 · from my personal experience, I drove B mode only for a week with less than 10 brake pedal application. however my wheels (more on the rears) were covered with brake dust so the physical brakes are definitely used in B mode.

Mar 14, 2023 · Take it off B mode. the regen seems to be rear biased and will pull your rear wheels out in snow. Set adaptive regen in D to “adaptive” or “low” and take off all emergency steering interventions.
Rant: Why is the "efficient" mode NOT the default driving
Nov 28, 2023 · I was able to create a gesture shortcut (2 fingers) but still a pain as the gesture doesnt work 100% of the time. Or use the mode dial manually to change the mode to "Efficient" every single time I enter the vehicle. I bought the IX mainly for highway commute (and bi-weekly trips to the bay area as most of my families are living there).
