Dec 8, 2011 · The 650 DP class are great solo tourers/offroad explorers for sure. Unless you want a new bike you might be better off to buy a used Dakar and spend the savings on mods such as USD forks. It's a real shame BMW didn't include them on the Sertao, couldn't have cost that much more to slap on a set from the G650X Country or 800GS.

I had my Dakar fitted with Conti's before delivery and my wife has the low seat version with OEM tires GS so my statement may be skewed; my Dakar has a light feel in the front and I think the std GS handles like a pig. :eek1 :eek1 Granted it could be the tires. I like the Dakar in all aspects EXCEPT the weight.

Apr 24, 2009 · I also have an 09 F650GS and this bike has a problem. It collects water from the "air intake cones". The water then settles and causes the bike to stall at low speeds. I have been working with my dealer and BMW customer service. They do not have a solution for this problem. It is a safety issue. I have also notified NHTSA which can be done on-line.

The FAQ states that such a copper washer is part of the BMW oil change kit for the F650 GS, but that is not the case in Canada. The washer here is a simple rubber o-ring and won't do with this brass plug.

Jul 9, 2010 · On the technical side, the new G 650 GS Sertão uses the established liquid cooled, high-torque single cylinder engine of the G 650 GS with two overhead camshafts, fuel injection, and double ignition. Its 652 cc displacement delivers 35 kW (48 hp) at 6500 rpm and a max torque of 60 Nm at 5000 rpm.

This is a simple job you can do yourself and save some money doing it. BMW recommend the Valve Clearances are checked every 10,000km or about 6,000 miles. Note that unlike the Classic F, the F650 GS/Dakar Service Schedule notes that Valve Check is "No longer included in the 600 mile inspection as of MY2002".
