We replaced a body harness on a BMW with one sent from Germany. When it was all installed 40 plus hours later we found they wired it wrong with the halogen lights VS the Xenon. After going back and forth with engineering the result was to replace the full body harness again. BMW does not make accessories or option changes easy.

But as far as testing all you will be able to do without a test light is a wiggle test assuming one of the plugs is is not making good contact (like a worn ok let in a house) the controller tells the resistor to increase or decrease speed and is unlikely to have failed.
