May 13, 2023 · I think the n55 is a very reliable engine. I’ve owned a 2011 335i MSport for 3 years, and it’s been a very reliable car. My wife previously owned the X3 35i with the n55. She owned that for 5 years and that was also very reliable. We both replaced valve cover gaskets. But aside from that, all has been well.

Mar 9, 2023 · I had a 335i n55 for 2 years and spent over 10 grand in repairs. I kept having valvectronic issues and drivetrain problems. Then my turbo charger fan stopped spinning and I had to spend about 4k to get that fixed. A month later my car got totaled and that was the best thing that happened to me.

Oct 25, 2022 · Put a few dabs of rtv in the valve cover groove around the corners so that the gasket stays in place. I had a corner fall out of place in the back and didn't notice until the car started leaking oil on the downpipe.

Apr 22, 2022 · I feel like the n54 is more of an “equipped” engine. A n55 is a lot better for a daily for the more reliable injectors alone. N55 even with a bigger turbo is only just as capable of a fully bolt on n54 (e30, 20psi, inlets, etc) with original turbos.

Jun 15, 2019 · I've got a pretty steady coolant leak under the driver side of my car, 2011 E92 335i xDrive 6spd. I've added about half a gallon of distilled water since this past Wednesday. I've checked the common failure points such as the coolant reservoir, the upper radiator hose, and the water pump/thermostat.
