You basically need to tell the new can gateway about all the electronic things in your car, and this info is all in the coding. So, having made a note of the coding on the old can gateway, take it out and put the new one in.

We see the pinout of the 20-pin plug for the J533 here: I don't know where pin 1 is on the actual device, it's simple enough to orient once you find the brown wire in the corner (pin 11) and the black/white (pin 14).
