Here is 2024 revised Powershell+Excel method to get pure file size statistics of a hard drive. Using Total Commander trick does not work 2024. Total Commander copies everything to clipboard ok but special space characters gets added inside the number string while pasting directly to Excel.

If you convert an ASCII (only Latin alphabet) file to UTF-8, the difference in file size should be minimal. For MP3 files, it really depends on the encoding. If you have a high bitrate MP3, it will take a lot more space than something low bitrate. You can go on the rough estimate of 5 MB/file though. Word files depend on the format .doc vs .docx.

I am seeking to understand that "average" file size for a folder on my computer.
