The ASTI framework will initially apply to around £20bn of onshore transmission network investment with potential for further investment in the future as we seek to decarbonise the energy sector and pivot away from reliance on fossil fuels.

In December 2022, the energy regulator, Ofgem, approved the need for these projects as part of its Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework decision.
