The Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation, which celebrated its 20th Anniversary last year (2021-2022), is a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization with a mission to enlighten, uplift and immerse the community at large in all things artful of Africa – in full – in America.

Our AY WELL+FIT STUDIO (AY, Asase Yaa) mission is to treat wellness and fitness holistically. We want to help motivate adults of all ages and genders to reach peak physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being in a welcoming, familial, and supportive environment that embraces building a healthier lifestyle community.

Dance Classes + WORKSHOP (noon-3pm): Afrobeat, Caribbean + Hip Hop Dance Classes Hosted by Asase Yaa School of the Arts. All classes are open to all ages and skill levels, and are 45 minutes in length. The night included a high energy dance performance by the Asase Yaa Youth Ensemble, Arkestra Africa feat. Amma Watt, an 11-member Afro beat band, and The Jouvayfest Company, winner of the 2023 J’ouvert Band of the Year- “THE RED LETTERSSSSS” (presented by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association).

Jan 16, 2024 · Under the direction of Yao Ababio, Asase Yaa’s 16-member African American Dance Theater performed Djembe in the New Millennium, which also featured guest appearances by Amma Whatt, Missia Saran Diabate, Saidou Sangare, Zamani Moyo, and Travis Raeburn, which was a captivating finale to the Festival.

Zakiya Harris brings a wealth of diverse professional experience and innate compassion to her role as Artistic Director of Asase Yaa’s School of the Arts. Since 2002, she has been a pillar in the school’s development, initial joining Asaye Yaa as a dancer, then later expanding her responsibilities to serve as Dance Captain and an Administrator.
