Atmospherically Resistant Vegetation Index (ARVI) is a vegetation-based index that minimizes the effects of atmospheric scattering due to aerosols such as such as rain, fog, dust, smoke, or air pollution.

ARVI is most useful in regions of high atmospheric aerosol content. It uses blue light reflectance measurements to correct for the atmospheric scattering effects, that also influence reflectance of red light.

The Atmospherically Resistant Vegetation Index algorithm was introduced by Kaufman and Tanre (1992). The resistance of the ARVI to atmospheric effects (in comparison to the NDVI) is accomplished by a self-correction process for the atmospheric effect on the red channel.
