The ARO M461 was an off-road vehicle built in post-World War II Romania by ARO. The first model was IMS-57, named by the factory initials (Intreprinderea Metalurgică de Stat) and the year it was released. A total of 914 vehicles were built between 1957 and 1959, mostly handcrafted.

The new model, christened M461, benefited from a completely redesigned technical platform. Its name derived from M, for Muscel, the region of production, 4, the fourth prototype produced, and 61, the first year of development.

The white civil ARO M461 C was registered with the number 1-AG-3904, and had a series of minor modifications prior to the rally: a twin filter and cooling system, stronger rear suspension, a strengthened towbar to be able to tow more than 800 kg, headlamp shields, and extra canisters.

Aro M461 produs intre 1964-1975 , impreuna cu medelul M-461 C, in 80.233 de unitati, fiind si primul model exportat. Era echipat cu un motor tip M207 de 2512 cmc si o putere de 70 cp, in cazul M461 (1964-1969) si 77CP, in cazul M461 C (1969-1975).
