The competition is a physically and mentally demanding world-class event that rigorously tests U.S. Army soldiers, U.S. Marines, and international partners in tank crew maneuver, sustainment, and gunnery skills.

The Armor Branch is the armored warfare branch of the United States Army. This branch was formerly considered to be one of the combat arms branches, but is today included within the "Maneuver, Fires and Effects" (MFE) classification, in accordance with current U.S. Army organizational doctrine.

The 2 M1 Abrams tanks have a full crew (1 commander, 1 gunner, 1 loader and 1 driver). The Company Commander (a Captain) acts as the tank commander for one of the tanks, while the Executive Officer (the company's second-in-command) commands the second.

As an Armor Officer, you may either work with tank units that utilize the M1A1 and M1A2 Abrams Tanks (as a 19B Armor Officer), or cavalry units responsible for forward reconnaissance operations (as a 19C Cavalry Officer).
