Jul 6, 2024 · The mortality data based ARDS severity comes from the Berlin definition, which as indicated below the table is for PF ratios with a minimum of PEEP 5. For more on the ARDS definition see here: https://litfl.com/acute-respiratory-distress-syndrome-definitions/
Horowitz Index for Lung Function (P/F Ratio) - MDCalc
The Horowitz index for Lung Function (P/F ratio) assesses lung function, particularly in intubated patients.
ARDS - EMCrit Project
Sep 8, 2021 · Consider high PEEP table if P/F is <200 mm (27 kPa), or in morbid obesity. Target pH roughly >~7.2 (unless elevated ICP or RV failure). Treat any metabolic acidoses. Consider IV bicarbonate to increase the bicarbonate to ~30-35 mM (if needed to achieve adequate pH without lung-injurious ventilation). Moderate propofol infusion. Opioid boluses PRN.
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome - ARDS - LITFL
Jul 5, 2024 · Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is an acute diffuse, inflammatory lung injury, leading to increased pulmonary vascular permeability, increased lung weight, and loss of aerated lung tissue with hypoxemia and bilateral radiographic opacities, associated with increased venous admixture, increased physiological dead space and decreased ...
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome - StatPearls - NCBI Bookshelf
Jan 31, 2024 · Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening condition characterized by poor oxygenation and non-compliant or "stiff" lungs. The disorder is associated with capillary endothelial injury and diffuse alveolar damage.
ARDS/ALI - LearnPICU
ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) Classically defined in adults as (1994 American European Consensus Conference): bilateral opacities on CXR. PaO2/FiO2 ("PF ratio") <300 for ALI and <200 for ARDS, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure of <18 mmHg (or no suspicion of cardiac disease)

A Comprehensive Review of the Management of Acute Respiratory Distress …
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is an inflammatory process in the lungs that induces non-hydrostatic protein-rich pulmonary edema. ARDS occurs in roughly half of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia patients, with most of them requiring intensive care.
Identification of focal ARDS using PF ratio: a cross-sectional study
If an association between focal ARDS and PF ratio can be shown, PF ratio could then be used in place of thoracic imaging to identify focal ARDS. We therefore hypothesized that focal ARDS is associated with lower PF ratio and investigated this relationship.
