Apple II ("apple two", stylized as "Apple ][") is a series of microcomputers manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc. from 1977 to 1993. The original Apple II model, which gave the series its name, was designed by Steve Wozniak and was first sold on June 10, 1977. [2]

The Apple II was the first in a series of computers collectively referred to by the Apple II name. It was followed by the Apple II+ , Apple IIe , Apple IIc , Apple IIc Plus , and the 16-bit Apple IIGS —all of which remained compatible.

The Apple II, or Apple ][, became one of the most popular computers ever. Although it is a vast improvement over the Apple I , it contains the same processor and runs at the same speed. New features include a color display, eight internal expansion slots, and a case with a keyboard.

The Apple II debuted in April, 1977, almost exactly one year after the introduction of Apple's first computer. It included the same MOS Technology 6502 processor running at the same clock speed (1.023 MHz) as the Apple I .

The Apple II also included a larger ROM, more expandable RAM (4K to start), and 8 expansion slots. It had integer BASIC hard-coded on the ROM for easier programming, and included two game paddles and a demo cassette for $1,298.
