The Apache battalions were built for taking down armor divisions in the Fulda Gap in Europe. It's an apples to space donuts comparison. And shooting things from the air isn't always Close Air Support. It could be, and I'd say it probably is in the case of the Apache, Close Combat Attack. The difference is ownership of the fires/effects.

Its funny though because there are a shit ton of different helicopter models used by the military. When they say attack helicopter do they mean a Blackhawk or a Boeing AH-64 Apache or a Bell AH-1 Cobra or a Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne? Even their dumb joke consists of a spectrum.

I haven’t flown the Apache IRL, but have flow enough other helicopters (AW139, Bell 412, Bell 212, Bell 206B/L, AS350BA/B2/B3, RH44, RH22) to have a pretty good grasp on how a helicopter should feel. The Apache is a bit of an interesting helicopter in DCS.

The "I sexually identify as an Attack Helicopter" comes from people, usually those SJWs, identifying themselves, whether sexually or not, as many different things that seem odd. In this case the copypasta makes fun of it by saying the person identifies as an attack helicopter.

The M230 on the Apache is considered an “area weapon system” not a “point target” weapon system. All in all those looked like pretty accurate guns. However when the E model first came out they had some serious accuracy issues due to a bad box on the turret.

I was an apache guy, did both Delta company (heavy maintenance, 8+ 500 hr phases) and line company work (A co). I would say it would average out to about 20-35 man hours roughly. It really depends honestly. Like every 25hours/14days you have an inspection that will take 4 people 4hours to do, not counting any issues that arise.

Sep 18, 2018 · When the IP (instructor pilot) said “ok I have the controls” and you were able to let go and relax, that moment is the biggest sigh of relief and the biggest release of pent-up nerves and stress that you can imagine. The Apache is kind of unique in that it has moments like that even years after becoming qualified in it.

Once in the cockpit, most of our job consists of flying very low and fast, in formation, at night, to execute the mission that we planned. Occasionally we go to the range to work on finding and engaging targets, and working with ground forces.
