The Neurocircuitry of Fear, Stress, and Anxiety Disorders
Research on the neurocircuitry of anxiety disorders has its roots in the study of fear circuits in animal models and the study of brain responses to emotional stimuli in healthy humans. We review this research, as well as neuroimaging studies of anxiety disorders.
Inhibition in the amygdala anxiety circuitry - Nature
Apr 9, 2018 · A key element of the anxiety circuitry is the amygdala, which integrates information from cortical and thalamic sensory inputs to generate fear and anxiety-related behavioral outputs.
Resolving the neural circuits of anxiety - PMC - PubMed Central …
Neural circuits implicated in anxiety-related behaviors in the rodent brain. Recent work using optogenetics, behavioral neuroscience and electrophysiology has begun to establish causal relationships between anxiety behaviors and activity in specific neural circuits.
Neuronal circuits for fear and anxiety - Nature
May 20, 2015 · Recent studies, which used optogenetic targeting of neuronal subpopulations, have revealed novel aspects of specific circuits underlying anxiety-like behaviour — and, by inference, anxiety ...
Inhibition in the amygdala anxiety circuitry - PubMed
Apr 9, 2018 · Inhibitory neurotransmission plays a key role in anxiety disorders, as evidenced by the anxiolytic effect of the benzodiazepine class of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor agonists and the recent discovery of anxiety-associated variants …
Brain circuitry underlying the ABC model of anxiety
Jun 1, 2021 · The Alarm, Belief, Coping (ABC) theory of anxiety describes how the neural circuits associated with anxiety interact with each other and domains of the anxiety symptoms, both temporally and spatially.
Anxiety disorders: Treatments, models, and circuitry mechanisms
Nov 15, 2024 · A comprehensive summary that offers a representative overview of the primary anxiolytic drugs, their neuropharmacological mechanisms, a systematic classification of anxiolytic drug research, animal models of anxiety, and the neural circuits associated with anxiety.
Neural circuits in anxiety and stress disorders: a focused review
Jan 23, 2015 · We examined recent neuroimaging literature that aims to identify neural mechanisms underlying anxiety, searching for patterns of neural dysfunction that might be specific to different anxiety disorder categories.
Proposed models for the neural circuitry of normal anxiety as well as the anxiety disorders are discussed. A brief review of specific findings from neuroimaging
