Jul 13, 2021 · Angband's position is 029 degrees north by north-west at 250 miles (as the crow flies over the Wasteland) from Sirion's Well, seen also on the maps as Eithel Sirion (in the middle of B-7 on Map A; Tolkien's 1935 map).

Jan 15, 2023 · Map D (the green online map) shows Angband's position as 263 miles on a heading of 011 degrees North from Sirion's Well. However, the Tolkien map (map A) and Fonstad's map (map C) have a heading of 029 degrees North by north-east.

Oct 15, 2014 · The truth of the matter is that there was no map of Angband in the original publication. An oversight? Incomplete? It could be a number of factors that kept it out. There was a later and larger map which included Angband and territories further north.

The location of Angband and Thangorodrim was not shown on the map in The Silmarillion, and originally it was mapped beyond the northern borders, in keeping with the statement that Thangorodrim lay 150 leagues from Menegroth—about 450 miles—“far, and yet all too near.”5 It was uncertain if this distance were “as the crow flies” or ...

Geography (see also the map below): Angband was located in far northwestern of Middle-earth. It was on the border of the cold northern lands which were fenced by the Iron Mountains. East of Angband, the Iron Mountains extended to the Blue Mountains and beyond. West of Angband, the mountain range curved northwestward to the Sea.

Angband was built near the northwestern shores of the Great Sea in the range of the Iron Mountains, as a first defence against any attack on Melkor's realm from the Valar in Aman.
