Angband was a primarily subterranean stronghold under the three volcanic mountains of Thangorodrim, the largest mountains in Middle-earth. Before the Great Gate, there was a somber court area flanked by frightening cliffs and walled by the towers of a great battlement.

However, a discussion with u/Lothronion and u/EvieGHJ on my previous article (Where was Utumno?) revealed that there is actually no consensus on Angbands location. What is the problem here? Why is Angband not displayed on the official map of the Silmarillion?

Angband was a powerful and mighty fortress just south of Utumno, originally commanded by Sauron during the Elder Days, and Thangorodrim were a series of mountains which should adjacent to Angband. Both mighty fortresses made Mordor look like a park.
