For almost 50 years, Andropogon has committed itself to the principle of designing with nature to create beautiful and evocative landscapes that are inspired by natural processes, informed by the most recent science, and crafted to meet the needs of their unique communities.

Andropogon’s site design links interior and exterior learning spaces by creating outdoor classroom and event spaces, a play space, an urban agricultural zone, an outdoor maker space, and a 3,000 SF partially accessible green roof.

Andropogon then redesigned the heart of Drexel University as a web of woodland walks featuring diverse plant communities and a canopy of shade trees. The team incorporated gathering spaces in the design to accommodate daily interactions with flexible seating and food trucks, as well as formal areas for large-scale celebrations.

Andropogon is honored to have worked with a myriad of well-respected institutions, in many cases for multiple projects spanning a decade or more.

On the interior, Andropogon developed themes that exhibit the evolution of plants from green algae to gymnosperms and angiosperms. The visitor’s path also highlights plant adaptations to the environment from dry climates to wet conditions.

Our hometown of Philadelphia, like many older cities, drains rainwater and wastewater into a single, overburdened, combined sewer system. Andropogon worked with the City of Lewes and the community to plan a new city park and vital open space that captures the character and history of the town and provides an opportunity to reconnect the historic town core to the waterfront.

The Morris Arboretum, located in Philadelphia, was Andropogon’s first project and remains a special place where we go to celebrate, learn, and recharge. Andropogon’s 1978 master plan and many implementation projects have guided the institution through 40 years of growth.
