Nov 20, 2020 · I've owned and smelled at least a dozen fragrances featuring Ambroxan (here is my Fragrantica page). But I never really know what to look for when I'm trying to smell Ambroxan. I've done a little research but the common descriptors (musky, ambery, woody) are so generic and doesn't really paint a good picture.

Sep 27, 2022 · I personally get a (sometimes) salty, airy woody smell, but I haven't smelled a ton of ambroxan-heavy fragrances either. I'm basically going off of Sauvage, Montblanc Explorer and Luna Rossa Carbon. Molecule 02 would be the best route to smell it - or make your own from powdered ambroxan and alcohol.

Ambroxan is an aroma compound created to provide a cheaper alternative to ambergris. It has been found that a very small amount of ambroxan can have an impact on a fragrance making it smell fuller.., kinda like adjusting the contrast or focus of a picture. It isn’t really used in an amount that it can be smelled.

Mar 15, 2020 · You can dilute Ambroxan in perfumers alcohol. IFRA limits use to 1.000% in a finished formula. 1g Ambroxan to 99g Alcohol. If you plan to mix the Ambroxan with other materials, allow the juice to mature for 3 months. Otherwise you could use it as-is after dilution.

Ambroxan is a curious note because every time I smell it I pick up something different. Sometimes it smells like your mouth after coming back from the dentist. A certain clinical stank that smells almost vile. Sometimes it smells faintly floral. Like a very subdued jasmine. And sometimes it straight up smells like nothing.

I have JHAG another oud and molecule 2 (ambroxan) I can smell the ambroxan/cetalox on JHAG it is a sharp metallic sweat note. On molecule 2 it is more mineral salty. Those bigger molecules are sometimes more challenging for your nose to perceive.

Aug 18, 2022 · Paper- still repugnantly strong. In the description it says it is ‘overloaded with amber’ and elsewhere refers to it as ‘molecular amber’ which I understand is ambroxan. Is this the note I need to be careful to avoid in overload? Book+ is gorgeous. Yum. Woody and green. Gold+ starts obnoxiously like Paper-, but does mellow out a bit.
