Dec 19, 2023 · The main difference between am4 and am5, you can upgrade am5 to newer CPUs such as 8000 and maybe 9000. The 7000 is better than the 5000 but if your budget limited, the 5000 is still very strong.

Jun 24, 2023 · With Am4 the best gaming cpu is the 5800x3d which is still very good in 2023 but if u want to upgrade you'd have to buy a whole new motherboard and ram. Am5 mobos, cpus, and ram have gone way down in price, it's a no brainer to go AM5 now.

With this budget, I'd go AM4 R5 5600. Otherwise your wasting money on a cpu that is way better than you need and end up spending less on a gpu. People will argue for AM5 since you wont have to upgrade the motherboard/ram when you decide to upgrade the gpu, but when are you really going to upgrade the gpu?

Mar 7, 2023 · Hey guys, new builder here coming from console. Does it make more sense going into AM4 platform or AM5 platform? I think with the microcenter deals, it makes more sense to go into AM5 platform, specially since I’m starting from scratch. What’s your take on this?

Nov 23, 2022 · Just because am5 has launched doesn't mean am4 is now worthless. If you build an am4 system now that meets your needs and just use it for 5 years then people will be telling you how am5 is a dead platform.

Feb 22, 2024 · Am5 if iGPU is a requirement, or check out some of intels offering, their i5 can keep up with the 7600 and some of their motherboards support ddr4 for their latest cpus. Personally I'd go with Am4. There's still a lot of Am4 matx boards bnew, the x3d chips are still super fast for gaming and ddr4 is more affordable than ddr5.

Jan 12, 2022 · I'd lean towards AM5 as well, but note that DDR5 memory is very expensive and in short supply. Most of the early bugs will be worked out with software patches in the months after launch. By the time the second generation AM5 processors and chipsets are released, probably late 2023/early 2024, it'll be solid.

Jun 24, 2024 · When is AM5 worth it, if an AM4 Ryzen 5600 is more than enough to handle the gpu I wanted (like an RX 7600) If I am looking for programming+gaming performance right now, is the great cpu power of AM5 worthy enough compared to the better gpu potential for settling on AM4? Have no plans for upgrading. Budget is around 650-700USD System unit only.
