It was an ambitious and unique single-engine attack aircraft specifically designed for the United States Navy.

The squadron flew the AD-1 Skyraider (which was a beautiful dive bomber and carrier plane) until a gradual transition was made to the AM-1. At this time we were stationed at NAS Jacksonville. It was learned early on that this was a terrible aircraft.
