The 3008 was the first of NYSW's five ex NYC/PC/CR C430's to be scrapped in 1986 due to a major mechanical failure. The few remaining 6 axle Centuries were also silent in deadlines at Collinwood and upstate New York. Each month their numbers grew smaller, but the Brier Hill men kept as many of the Youngstown Alco C425's and C430's running as best they could. Probably the main reason the Alcos were deemed surplus in late '79 was the slowing economy.
