I still have my homemade Alco C430 electrical and mechanical trouble shooting guide - well worn, and the ringing of Alco alarm bells in my ears. 1. The prime mover and alternator of 3004 is loaded in D&H gondola 13885 at the old Erie Binghamton QD shop (now called NYS&W BH Shop) and will soon be moving to Rome - February 1989.

Each month their numbers grew smaller, but the Brier Hill men kept as many of the Youngstown Alco C425's and C430's running as best they could. Probably the main reason the Alcos were deemed surplus in late '79 was the slowing economy.
