Sep 15, 2022 · The team also adopted a feline space-cat named “Orbit” as a mascot, and established their official colors as galaxy-purple, astro-red, and shooting-star-yellow. Jokingly, a Los Angeles Times article paraded the name the “Akronauts” in an interview with the team’s owner, Mike Agannis.

The Aeros (8,193 votes) beat out the Spirit (7,361) and the Quest (2,320) on November 7, 1996. (The club’s astro-cat mascot concept survived. A local 9-year old dubbed him “Orbit” in a contest for local school children).

Orbit was born in 1997 when the Akron Aeros came into existence. He is a Space Cat and holds the title for most games attended at Canal Park. When the Aeros rebranded as the RubberDucks in 2014, we knew we couldn’t retire Akron’s favorite cat.

The Akron RubberDucks are a Minor League Baseball team based in Akron, Ohio. The team, which plays in the Eastern League, is the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. They play in Canal Park, located in downtown Akron, which seats 7,630 fans.

Orbit came to Akron in hopes of baseball glory but minor league baseball's antiquated speciation rules would have it otherwise.

Jan 29, 2025 · At the time of the club’s rebranding in 2014, they held a contest to name a new mascot, and Webster – a male duck, presumably named for his webbed feet – won the fan vote and has since waddled the concourse at Canal Park. Webster is joined by two holdovers from the Aeros era, Orbit and Homer, and Rubberta, a female duck that joined the flock.

The Akron Aeros, a Double A affiliate of Cleveland, play at Canal Park, seating 9,447. An old semi-restored canal is just outside the right field fence. This is another newer park, built in 1997, that is very fan friendly.
