Agulo is home to a tradition that is unique to the island of La Gomera, known as the bonfires of San Marcos. On the eve of 24 April, crowds gather in the streets of Agulo to jump over little piles of burning juniper wood that fill the town with their characteristic scent.

Agulo is located on the north coast of the island of La Gomera in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands. It is located 13 km northwest of the capital San Sebastián de la Gomera. The population was 1,100 in 2013. [3]

The town centre of Agulo, made up of the boroughs of El Charco, Las Casas and La Montañeta, features typical examples of local architecture. The Church of San Marcos and the Plaza de Leoncio Bento are worth a visit.

Agulo is a picturesque municipality, opened to the Atlantic sea and that always includes the El Teide peak on its scenery. This is the smallest municipality in La Gomera, located at the end of a big basalt wall forming a beautiful green balcony over the sea.

Perched on a cliff with lovely views of the Atlantic Ocean and Mount Teide, picturesque Agulo is dubbed as the Green Balcony and Bonbon of La Gomera.
