Upon reaching the Agoo,the oldest town in La Union, we instantly caught sight of the Basilica Minor of Our Lady of Charity. The Basilica Minor of Our Lady of Charity is elevated as a basilica minore by Pope John Paul II in 1982.

Basilica Minore of our Lady of Charity, Agoo The Franciscan priests Fr. Juan Baptista Lucarrelli and Fr. Sebastian Baeza established Agoo in 1578 when it was still a part of Pangasinan. The Augustinians later took over the mission in 1598.

Surprisingly beautiful church! The basilica in Agoo is surprisingly attractive. Situated right next to the main highway passing through the town, it is very easy to visit. The parish dates back to 1578, with a succession of churches built on the site. The current structure was built in 1975.

Its origins are unknown but it was first venerated and enthroned in Bantay and brought to Agoo by an Augustinian priest.
