I was using a Yamaha DSP A1 integrated amp (about 120 watts per channel) with a set of Wharfedale Rubiance RB-27 floor standing speakers (both about 20 years old). I recently acquired a pair of ADS L1290 speakers and a Sansui B-2101 power amp at 200 watts per channel (with 600 watt).

Oct 22, 2004 · I have owned a pair of L1290's since 1988 and they are wonderful. I am listening to them now. They are very mellow and very accurate. This speaker is a sealed enclosure. No ports, no passive radiators. I will never part with them. ADS had this great high end high quality reputation back in the 80's and the early 90's.

Just for fun, I wanted to try out the PA1 biamplifiers that were designed for the L1290/L1590--with a high-pass amplifier and low-pass amplifier, and electronic X-over in each PA1. before I ran them in full range mode with a 200watt/channel Rotel RB-991.

Jan 19, 2020 · I have had two ADS and Yamaha systems: ADS L200 with Yamaha R70 receiver (source Thorens TD150 with Shure M91ed) and ADS L1290 with Yamaha M4 and C4 (source Thorens TD125 w. SME 3009 and Shure V15iv). Each was sweet, one tiny, one big. The larger system was chosen over McIntosh, Mitsubishi, and Nakamichi alternatives.

Dec 7, 2020 · Hello. Would anyone care to comment on which version sounds better and if it's worth the price difference? I have a Pro-ject Debut Carbon (with acrylic platter) with an Ortofon 2M Blue Cart. This is going through a Sansui B-2101 200 wpc amp into ADS L1290 speakers. And I'm 61 years old so my hearing isn't like it used to be. Thanks

I then upgraded the Europa's ($780.00/Pair) to the Calypso's ($10K/pair) and have never looked back. Even the entry level GMA Europa completely out performed the ADS. Give them a listen if ...
