Passive AC’97 analog front panel dongles (ones which leave the 5V Analog pin-7 line unconnected on the dongle) may be used with the Intel® HD Audio analog front panel header. But note that the front panel jack detection and re-tasking functionality will be lost as the AC’97 jacks cannot support connection to the SENSE line.

AC'97 defines a high-quality, 16- or 20-bit audio architecture with surround sound support for the PC. AC'97 supports a 96 kHz sampling rate at 20-bit stereo resolution and a 48 kHz sampling rate at 20-bit stereo resolution for multichannel recording and playback.

Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 04) the problem that this doesn't sound. Alsamixer says: card: Intel ICH6. chip: Conexant Cx20468-31. The master, headphone, PCM and line volumen are on. Also try to use a usb audio card and neither it work.

Then I shutted down again te VM and change back the sound hardware to AC'97, and after reboot, the sound was playing. I've checked the drivers onto the device manager and it was the 82801AA AC’97 driver. It was installed by itself propertly :O

I installed the C-Media AC97 Audio Driver from the CD which came with motherboard, but the Audio Driver is very old I think. Driver date: 2004.08.26. and driver version: 5.12.1.46. Isn't there any
