AW cars ...Or the track - Slot Car Illustrated Forum
Apr 7, 2014 · I think the AW cars are a lot of fun - although not quite as refined as the originals. One thing that really works for me with the AW Thunderjets is to use brass wheel weights on the front axle - part F16 from JW Speed Parts. They work out about $1.50 a car.

Oct 12, 2022 · I'll take Auto World cars over RM's inline chassis. But I'm a big pancake fan. The AW chassis is a bit sloppy out of the gate but great fun to dial in. The RM GT40 bodies are pretty!! The RM track is crisper but if you read the track rail tuning sheet with AW, you can see how to dial AW rails in and occasionally apply the advice to RM track.

Feb 13, 2022 · The original 2-sided AFX guide pin was intended to allow the cars to be used on the old model motoring (short pin) or deep slot AFX track (long blade). Magnets, armatures, brushes, brush springs, pickup shoes, pickup shoe springs, gears, axles and wheels are all interchangeable. Although I don't think you want to put the AW or JL gears and wheels on the Aurora cars. Dropping the AW or JL magnets in T-Jet or AFX Magnatraction can be a good way to get some extra horsepower.

Feb 9, 2022 · The old AW pin is too short and easily broken. The new metal AW pin is longer. Deep slot depth is very important. It's annoying that Racemasters terminal track has ridges in the grooves for the metal connectors and Racemasters criss cross tracks also has a metal rail that jutts into the slotway. AW doesn't on the terminal track, so a plus for AW.

The torque reaction in SW and AW is more helpful - as has been mentioned in an earlier post, this is easy to demonstrate by lifting the back of the car up and revving it. This tends to exaggerate the size of the effect on the track. The gyroscopic effect of the armature in SW and AW helps prevent the car tipping out of the slot in a corner.

Oct 16, 2024 · AW has made some slight changes to bring the quality inline with other slot cars and I think it shows AW is not deaf. The thunder jet is a good car and platform to build upon. It can be tuned to run as well as others like kind.

Nov 18, 2012 · As has been noted the Tuff Ones cars were a souped up version of the original Aurora Thunderjet car. It is better to use the term T-Jet for those cars. The Auto World Ultra G is a Thunderjet 500 with an added neodymuim traction magnet. AW makes a clone of the Aurora Magnatraction car called the X-Traction.
